The Struggle is Real in CA

Somewhat exhausted this afternoon, with a sister evacuated in SoCal, another sister under evacuation warning in NoCal, and my own home a quarter hour away from a third evacuation zone. My job is 5 minutes from the Carquinez Bridge, so not clear if we will be going to work in the morning (and if they are open, will I be able to get there?). Of course we have been without power since yesterday, being told might not get that back till Wed. Without power, no WiFi, so only access to internet (and news if, day, whether a deadly firestorm is coming over the ridge) is via my cell phone, the service of which seems to be getting spotty, and the only way I can keep it powered is to sit in my car for an hour once or twice over night.

Given all that, while not on the top 20 of my priority list, I do have this question: why can I watch the NFL game on the local Fox Affiliate (49ers) over my Xfinity internet, but can not watch the NFL on the local CBS affiliate (Raiders)? The latter requires access through my home WiFi.

Thanks for the update. I've been wondering what you've been going through.   Fires are bad, but I can't imagine fire plus those winds.

First, good luck with the fires.

As far as what stations are available to you, I'll guess that it's part of the carriage agreements we hear about every time station owners and cable companies butt heads. So what you can actually see is probably something of a lottery. (If you can't see Monday Night Football, you'll just be missing Dolphins at Steelers.)

So, you think it is at the level of the local stations, or of the Network? I know I can not access the Thursday night game through my Comcast DVR unless connected to home WiFi, but with that I watch via Amazon. Not sure about mnf, will check tonight

I believe CBS does not allow cableco streaming, wanting you to pay for the privilege through All Access.

I'm with a different cableco, but I can stream many CBS shows through my OnDemand service.  It usually matches what I can stream through the CBS website without having All Access.

Duh! I can stream CBS shows through xfinity, just not NFL. But it did not occur to me yesterday to try through CBS access, which I should have
