KCDC to CNN

Kasie Hunt, IMO one of the bright young stars in cable news, is leaving NBC News for CNN. I am disappointed/surprised, as I am among the billions of humans who have been hoping she would take over Meet The Press from the current tool who hosts it.

Perhaps more significantly thought, as the linked article explains, is how this highlights how television news is pivoting towards and investing in streaming as a major delivery of its content. CNN has been a hold out in this, but word is Kasie will be paid between $1-1.5 Million to host “Newstreams” (is that what they would be called?), especially for big breaking news events. The others outlets have already been moving in that direction. 

If I have not mentioned it lately, Jeff Zucker is an asshole, but this is a good move. I may start watching CNN again, at least online.

I was struck by the realization that a channel doing 24-hour news should just be able to stream itself without needing to do anything special. (It makes sense for companies like CBS and ABC, which don't have full-time news channels, to cobble together streaming news.) If the news channels have twisted themselves into formats where personalities and debates are more important than following the actual news, there's no reason to think that their streaming services won't end up in exactly the same position.
