Montreal seems like an odd choice to shoot (although maybe not so odd as, say, Ireland) - has anyone seen anything about a Canadian version going into production at the same time?

There have been English and French versions of Match Game within the last 10-15 years (both filmed in Montreal, as I recall), but I don't think either of them are still in production.

At least there is a history of U.S. game shows being made in Canada, compared to Fox's Irish-produced shows (and made-in-Australia "Quiz With Balls") and CBS shooting the "Lingo" reboot in the UK, "Loteria Loca!" in Spain and "Raid the Cage" in Mexico--and CDub's Hasbro reboots being shot at the BBC's Elstree studios outside of London.

I liked the original Lingo, I like RuPaul, but RuPaul’s Lingo is unwatchable.

Chuck Woolery is a flaming horse’s ass, but he could host a game show.

I assume that it's in Montreal either because it's some kind of US-Canadian coproduction and needs to satisfy CanCon laws or because they don't want to have to pay six celebrities per episode to fly all the way to Europe.

Canadian game shows I recall, but I with I could forget:
- Definition
- Bumper Stumpers
- (some grocery store shopping cart thing).

I'm sure youtoube has examples.

The fact that it is in Montreal Quebec, and not Toronto leads me to believe there is a Quebec tax benefit happening.    And perhaps a re-use of the set for a french version -- who knows (not that a Quebec-french version would be marketable in France)

Any guests flown back to the USA from Canada would run the risk of DHS/ICE detention, so I hope they consider that in the production risk assessment.  :-)

There's a long history of Canadian-filmed game shows, normally distinguished by being cheap (either in terms of prizes, production values or both).

The grocery store thing is Supermarket Sweep Jackpot was also filmed in Toronto, and I seem to recall a few USA Network shows that were produced in Canada.

Beat the Clock was filmed in Montreal in the mid-70s, and there were a few syndicated shows that were filmed in Vancouver over the past 30 years or so.

In this case, it probably is a tax credit / cheap Canadian dollar thing.

The thing is that Fremantle has not climbed aboard the trend to overseas production and has kept their U.S. shows in the U.S. I am guessing a co-production with one of the Canadian networks.
