If you had put a gun to my head, I could not have told you who had been anchoring the CBS news for the last dozen years

By my count, this will be the sixth change of anchor in 20 years at the Evening News (Rather was ousted in 2005, then Schieffer, Couric, Pelley, Glor, O'Donnell, and whoever is next.) In that same time, NBC will have had one or two (Brokaw retired December 1, 2004), and ABC four, but two of them were bad luck (Peter Jennings' cancer and Bob Woodruff getting injured while Elizabeth Vargas was about to go on maternity leave) and two were veterans retiring after victory laps on the flagship show.

I like  Nora O and think she has done a good job. On election nights and during big stories, I usually toggle between CNN and CBS. But I rarely watch broadcast evening news for a regular source of information. And that is the problem. I think it is highly likely CBS is looking to downsize its financial investment in evening news, and Nora found she could makes much, or nearly, doing special projects for a lot less time demand.

Here’s the predictable follow-up story about how CBS plans to reinvent the news… again.

P.S.-Autocorrect kept trying to change that to “reinvent the Jews”… are iPhones antisemitic?
