This must be a sad mental health story. Sanchez has a job that pays him a huge amount of money for relatively few days of work and he puts it all at risk over nothing. He’s not a top level analyst so there’s no guarantee keeps his job.

Yeah, it’s sad all around. I’ve been following this story as it developed today -At first, it seemed like maybe Sanchez had been the victim of some drunk fans or something, But now it seems like he was more of the instigator.

I followed his career in college pretty closely, and then of course into the NFL where he was a disappointment on the way had some bright spots, but he Under performed. And then he invented himself as a colored commentator I agree he’s not one of the best, but his name still meant something to Fox and frankly there are worse commentators and Mark Sanchez is working right now. As you say all, I only had a pretty soft landing and a sweet deal at least from the outside. He did play a sport known for its high risk of head injury and risk for impulsive, violent self-destructive behavior so who knows. There are enough mediocre former players with recognizable names would love to take his place, so it does seem unlikely that his future will include working NFL games, hopefully he’ll be able to get his life together.

The Athletic  is reporting that Brady Quinn, former Notre Dame quarterback, and current Fox analyst. I guess he mostly covers college games will take the place of Mark Sanchez tomorrow. No word on arrangements for the rest of the season.

The more I read about the current reporting the more this sounds like several situations I’ve observed in various positions I’ve had in the past where a person is charged with misdemeanors, even though felonies are possible, and maybe even indicated as leverage to get them to accept alcohol or drug treatment. This smells to me like what’s happening with Mark Sanchez and if he’s able to agree to treatment and complete it likely the misdemeanor charges will stick and they will arrange something with little or no prison time, but if he does not satisfactory complete the treatment then charges will be upgraded, perhaps a felony and he will be facing A prison term term of more than one year. If that’s what’s happening, I suppose some will complain that this is a celebrities getting special treatment, but I’ve definitely seen regular people get the same kind of treatment at least in California.

I think if they charged him with felonies they would have to deal with bail and bringing Sanchez back to Indiana for court appearances. With misdemeanors they can just release him and negotiate a plea deal.

As expected, Sanchez is officially out, Replaced by fellow X so much better NFL quarterback Drew Brees.

I remember the last time Brees was tried as a commentator was at NBC in 2021, right after he retired from the Saint,s where he was put on FNIA and as the Color Guy for Notre Dame and there was probably an intent to make him a potential replacement for Collinsworth but he bombed so bad in the role that NBC let him go after a year.

I don't have any confidence that Brees has improved in the last four years since he was last on TV.

One thing about professional athletes is they can be coached. Brees has had enough time to improve his performance. He was a hot name when he retired and NBC took a chance on him in 2021. Now he’s no longer a hot name and I assume Fox made him audition before hiring him.

I don’t like Drew Brees As a person, and I think he was somewhat overrated as a quarterback. It’s true he was horrible when he first worked as an analyst, And maybe He has improved, although given the circumstances may be fox, just figured their best off getting a brand name in the booth and the worry about getting somebody better next year.

OTOH I really hate Tom Brady, and he’s not perfect as an analyst, and his existence in that booth is a huge conflict of interest which the NFL just pretends is not there, but I have to say I do find him interesting and I think he’s definitely a value added to the games that he does.

My standard for color analysts is that they know more about the game than I do and they don’t drive me nuts with inanities. Mark Sanchez worked a Steelers game early in the season and I appreciate how he could describe the offensive formation as they came to the line of scrimmage and said which play they were going to run. Between plays he had nothing to say which wasn’t a tired cliche.

I used to be on the road some Monday nights and I had the MNF game on Westwood One radio. When Brady was playing they gave him a segment to do during halftime, and not just Patriots games. It was just empty talk, like when a local athlete is invited to speak at a community banquet. So my expectations of him weren’t that high to start with. He doesn’t stand out for me either way on TV. A lot of times I don’t even remember that’s him until he starts into an anecdote from his playing days.

I find Brady to be absolutely unlistenable and try to avoid any games he's calling never mind the fact he's a garbage human being who's face looks like it's falling off from the plastic surgery and a cheater.

Meanwhile, Greg Olsen who he replaced from the A Color Seat at FOX continues to be excellent and praised for his analysis and shows every week how stupid the Murdoch's were wasting money to replace him with Brady who provides no value other than "HEY FOLKS! TOM BRADY'S CALLING THIS GAME!"

I've always said the only people who like Tom Brady either live in the New England or Tampa Bay areas or work for the media. He's always been a boring personality with a voice for a cardboard cutout, but that doesn't matter since the media loves him because he's good at throwing a football, so that should excuse all of the shady things he's done.

As I’ve said, I’m prepared to go into any one on one Tom Brady hating battle and come out the winner, both as a football player and a human being; But I have to say I disagree with some other colleagues here I think his work as an analyst has been surprisingly, not horrible and has gotten much better from his to the first half of the first year that he did it. He certainly about 2000% better than Joe Montana ever was when he tried that gig. Brady is still way too kind of cozy with the NFL players, especially once he played with, I think he did the Rams 49ers game and just couldn’t bring himself to say anything bad about the 49ers quarterback who I think had been a Patriots quarterback for a while. But he does do a good job of breaking down the place and have explaining keys at quarterbacks are looking at and mistakes at quarterbacks make. I wouldn’t call him you know I talk to your analyst at this point, but maybe because my bar for him is so low. I have been pleasantly surprised.

Going from an F-Level Announcer to a D-Level announcer doesn't cut it when FOX is wasting a ton of money on him. At the same time, the guy he replaced is still considered at the top of his game, and everyone recognizes that replacing him for the name talent was a misguided move.

Well, I think he’s better than a D level analyst right now but regardless, if you’re just talking about return on investment, I’m sure having Tom Brady as a visible part of the broadcast is as helpful as any particular analyst could be to Fox Sports now whether it’s worth the amazing amount of money, they’re paying him is another issue, I doubt it, but I guess they’re also paying to keep him away from their competitors
