Just wanted this in the Record for this group. I have watched it more than a couple of times since it aired and it may be singular in the history of SNL. It gets more heartbreaking and impressive the more often you watch it, IMO.

For my money, the "best" part of it was when Jost slipped and called her Cecile, subtly tipping the hand. It was uncomfortable, weird, and one of the best moments on SNL in a while.

That did raise it to a higher level, though I was not sure if it was an accident or intended.

It’s an important subject; it’s a subject in desperate need of good satire; it’s a personal story; it takes courage to tell it; too bad it wasn’t funny

If you didn't find "The last thing anyone wants is a bunch of dead clowns in an alley!" funny, I'm sorry, sir: I'm scoring that as a "you" problem.

Yeah, I thought is was extraordinarily heartbreaking and funny at the same time.

Humor is subjective. And I’m predisposed to dislike any of the last 20 years of SNL. Can I ask, as a very infrequent viewer, are they allowed a full studio audience yet? Because there was a distinct lack of laughter in the room during that segment. If it’s an empty room due to Covid restrictions, ok. But if 8H is full, then hmmm.

They were back up to full capacity on the season finale back in May.

I’m not sure the laugh meter from the studio audience is the best metric, but yes, I think they do have a full audience, though probably masked, which may muffle the laugh meter score.  I Did not pay any attention to the audience, but if it was less loud than usual on a Weekend Update segment I suspect it was because, as I said, it was both funny and heartbreaking.

This is one of those rare occasions I find myself agreeing with Kevin. It was a great premise and a promising bit, but Strong doesn't have the chops to pull it off. If McKinnon and Wiig are one-note, Strong strives to reach even that standard.

Using Lorne's audience of trained seals as a gauge as to whether something is funny is like using the crowd at a Trump rally to judge whether a social policy makes sense.

This is where I miss the Colbert "SLAM" dances from the storage-closet period... Groove is in the heart...     B
