Bob Tischler had worked as a producer on National Lampoon projects and the Blues Brothers albums when Dick Ebersol brought him in after the disastrous Jean Doumanian season of "SNL" to be showrunner with the mercurial Michael O'Donoghue, who pushed for the show to be more risky--he became sole showrunner and head writer when O'Donoghue was fired after the booking of the punk rock band Fear caused a studio audience mosh pit and alleged destroyed equipment and an unaired sketch titled "Silverman in the Bunker" (yes, as in Fred, yes, as in Nazi Germany--Ebersol later accused him of trying to purposely get the show cancelled)--Mr. Tischler could possibly be blamed for the show refocusing everything on Joe Piscopo and Eddie Murphy and away from the rest of the cast (which then included a young Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and the 1984-85 season where relative old pros Billy Crystal and Martin Short had taken over--he left when Lorne came back in 1985--he later worked on other television and recording projects--died on July 13 of pancreatic cancer:
