Comparisons to the characters in Hair Love were made on social media after Nickelodeon released a teaser for the series earlier this week. In both series, the fathers have shoulder-length hair, the mothers have natural curls, and the little girls wear pink bows or headbands.

However, it should be pointed out that Silvergate Media is a division of Sony, whose Sony Pictures Animation made "Hair Love."

On the Cartoon Brew blog, Amid Amidi makes the point that a lot of kiddie animation tends to be generic in character designs and shows that there is a similarity of the design of Black child characters in "Hair Love," "Maddie," "Butterbean's Cafe" (another Nick Jr. series) and HBO Max's "Esme and Roy."  His article:
