A massive percentage of the satcaster's customers are in Nexstar's station footprints, but they've been without them since July 1st... and naturally, neither side will budge... Nexstar's CEO noted the last time this happened four years ago, a settlement was reached Aug 29th...

When I was out-of-town a few weeks ago, I noted that the hotel TV, which was hooked up to DirecTV, was not showing the CBS, Fox and CW affiliates for the Quad Cities Illinois-Iowa area, which was the broad area I was in and all owned by Nexstar, along with KTLA in LA (which seems to be DirecTV's default CW for those markets where there's no affiliate or it's on a subchannel) and NewsNation. Even more annoying:  DirecTV has seemed to put the same infomercial and shopping channels on every 10 clicks on the dial, making channel-surfing a trial.  It's almost like whoever's owning DirecTV now has never heard of cord-cutting.

Presumably, they've decided that the same people who buy products from infomercials and shopping channels are the same people who still channel surf.

(I still have DirecTV, and those channels are fine with me because they're paying to be there, which supposedly lowers everyone's bills. It's not even a bandwidth issue if the exact same channel is duplicated in more than one spot - that's just code they can send to receivers. In the 20 years I've been a subscriber, I've never really channel surfed - I've had a DVR the entire time.)

Likewise for us with NBC in Des Moines last week. Our night in KELO-land (specifically, Vermillion SD) was on cable, so no block there.

On a side note: In Vermillion, we had three states’ PBS networks on the metaphorical dial to choose from – South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska.

Back in the days when TV Guide had local listings, Vermillion was served by the Nebraska Edition, which was not necessarily the best name because in addition to its namesake state, it also covered both the Sioux City (Iowa) and Sioux Falls (South Dakota) markets.
