This video is quite fun, especially for smart visualisations of data:

Unfortunately, the data is flawed. The early numbers are, I believe, just US Nielsen numbers and so fairly robust. But later on he starts adding in global peer-to-peer numbers plus official US audience data, and it all goes a bit awry for me, since that doesn't take proper account of legitimate global audiences.(And if you're doing a true global audience thing, how can I be sure that some Spanish language soap that I've never heard of doesn't have more viewers across  the whole of the Americas?)

Plus it's unclear to me how a show can have a year round presence if it doesn't air year round - Game of Thrones for example. And I'm not clear where the precise Netflix numbers come from.

All that said, it's still an interesting visualisation.

What I found interesting to watch is the fall in numbers of series as they age until they fall off the chart. Over the years I have read or listened to creators of these classic shows talk about how their series got cancelled too quickly and they had another year or two worth of ideas. What the chart makes clear is that when viewers abandon a favorite show they never come back.

All of the series are narrative or scripted series. I would have liked to see the whole prime time schedule included to see how series like American Idol or The Bachelor draw in comparison.

I was suspecting that sports or news would not be included, so no MNF or SNF is to be expected.  But I was saying "where's 'Survivor?'  Where's 'Idol?'  Where's 'Millionaire?'  Where's 'Dancing?'"  And we all know that the streamers hold their audience figures close to the vest, unless they want a self-congratulatory tweet.
