Arclight includes the famed CineramaDome (I used to work across the street from it and saw two Star Wars movies there) which years ago was expanded to include a multiplex (with the cleanest and most accessible restrooms in all of Hollywood... if you’ve never been to Hollywood, the importance of such amenities cannot be overstated, and to me losing the restrooms is a harsher blow than the actual theater). This article makes it seem like the end of cinema itself, but I suspect it is part of a new cinema experience which will unfold and unravel in the next few years. Not all chains or physical structures will survive.

I’ll be fully vaccinated the weekend after next (two weeks after my Johnson & Johnson shot), and I am planning to reactivate my AMC A-List subscription — I live less than 10 minutes from the ArcLight Sherman Oaks, but I was willing to drive farther (to Burbank or Woodland Hills) in order to see 3 movies a week for $23.95 a month, which is not too much more than one movie at the ArcLight.

Obviously, I’d be happy if AMC took over the ArcLight locations, but I suspect that’s not going to happen anytime soon with the current economic situation.

I am not familiar with “Arclight”, but I used to go to the the CineramaDome often, probably most memorably to see ET. Also remember a great night watching “Prince of the City”, and I think I also saw “Quest for Fire” there.

Arclight was great. I only saw a handful of movies at the Cinerama Dome but it was my favorite LA theater.

I've been going to the Dome since 1963 or 64, when I saw "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." (That night has always stuck in my mind because we had dinner at a long-gone diner across the street and I spilled a glass of milk all over my sister.) I saw everything from "2001" to "1941" there (so my track record for lousy movies is pretty strong).

I would imagine that either another chain or, especially, a streaming service will purchase the place, as it would give them a nice opportunity to showcase their own product and make nice with the other studios and indies by playing their stuff. My ideal scenario, though, would involve Netflix selling the Egyptian back to the Cinemathque and buying the Dome complex.

In Chicago, the Arclight opened up a location a few years ago and I didn't mind paying for the lack of ads, only two or three trailers, the soundtracks they played in the theaters and the human introductions.  And damn good popcorn and a bar.  It will be missed.

The CineramaDome will reopen… eventually. The original owners managed to hold onto the property during the bankruptcy process.

The thing I like most about that location are the clean, easily accessible restrooms inside of it. That better not change. Hollywood has a shortage of bathrooms.

Meanwhile, most of the Arclights have been taken over by AMC.  The Chicago one has reopened with very little changes as to the interiors, except that the wonderful schedule board has been turned off and of course, Maria Menunos, Perri and the Black guy who holds his clipon mike instead of wearing it before the shows instead of the pretty light shows to film soundtracks.  And Nicole Kidman right before the movie saying "they AH."

I don't know what this means. It is like announcing the Stanley Cup has been awarded to a horse.

They immortalized their hands in cement because they share chromosomes with someone famous. Makes sense to me.

One of those daughters is famous in her own right (Riley Keough).

That ceremony lost any credibility around the time they had people in Star Wars costumes leave prints.

I will say that, when I'm there for the TCM Festival, the forecourt is closed to anyone but people connected with Festival, and the frustrated looks of tourists craning their necks to see remnants of people they've never heard of is a delight. It's the same feeling I got about ten years ago, when a family stopped short and delightedly took multiple photos of Charles Champlin's star, which honors the late longtime film critic of the LA Times, rather than the actor who played The Tramp.

I didn't have the heart to tell them ...
