...so new CBS marketing head Mike Benson, coming off a long tenure at ABC, seeks to emphasize the company behind the content, no matter what platform it's on... one way involves a 1950s-era musical signature (like "G-E-C" at a competitor)...

CBS had a musical stinger once upon a time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYXWqW7ma3I

Just remix a Mort Stevens track and call it a day.

CBSAllAccess has been using a three-chord ident  on its original programming, although I'm guessing it was dropped in favor of the new one due to its similarity to the jingle for a certain similarly named pharmacy franchise.

Also this one from the 90s, which the CBS Orchestra riffed on when Dave made a joke at the expense of the network. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX4iSZTvvzI

What I find interesting is the network's decision to mark all of their shows as "CBS Originals."  That's more of a cable/streaming sort of thing, but is being used by the pubcaster in the Great White North, as any of you watching "Schitt's Creek" know ("A CBC Original").  Even Colbert is being branded as "A CBS Original," which makes me wonder if "Young and Restless" and "The Price is Right" will also get that branding.

Meanwhile, as I enjoy entering the world of flat screen, 40-inch HD smart TV with streaming services, I find it interesting how much this Hulu logo music sounds like the original 70s theme music for a morning show:

Grammy-winning DJ/producer CID improves upon the Eye's new "sig," combining EDM, chill, and pop-rock tunes built therefrom with vintage booth announcers... Lakeshore Records is pushing the pieces out to music platforms, and the net itself will début 'em during Sunday's Grammys... meantime, the aforementioned Mike Benson retools the once-Morton Stevens-scored "Special Presentation" title to the mnemonic...

The Price is Right gets the CBS Original treatment. The jarring thing is hearing the same tones after Jeopardy and Wheel, since they're owned by some division of CBS now.

The private channels in Canada have been doing the "original" thing for a while, as well.

Meanwhile, I think the new "CBS Special Presentation" bumper looks great, but the sound transitioning into CBS's current musical theme is just weird. (I'll admit that may be because if I see a spinning "Special," I'm expecting to hear what I did in the '80s!)

CBS acquired KingWorld back in 2000.  In 2007 they changed the name to CBS Television Distribution in a merger with CBS/Paramount Television  (and coincidentally Roger King died shortly thereafter).  At the beginning of the year CBS Television Distribution became CBS Media Ventures and adapted the new design and theme music.

The only vanity card which has yet to change to the new look is the "CBS Broadcasting" card that ends Colbert and British Jimmy, but I assume that will be taken care of soon.
