The publicity has been about the fact that "The Gates" is the first daytime soap centered around Black characters since the 1989 NBC show "Generations," but more importantly, it is the first new daytime  soap since NBC premiered the rather gonzo "Passions" in 1999 (it went off in 2008).  Even more importantly, it is a return to one of the two longtime pillars of daytime television (along with game shows) that have been reduced in recent years, with only three remaining on the networks (four if you count "Days of Our Lives" streaming on Peacock).  And it is the first new show in years from Procter & Gamble Productions, once the power producer of daytime soaps ("As the World Turns," "Guiding LIght," "Edge of Night," etc., etc.), but not active since "World" went off in 2010:

No indication of premiere date or what "The Gates" will be replacing, but if I were working on "The Talk," I'd be worried about now.

"Another World" oddly wasn't mentioned in the THR article... but then neither were the others Mark mentioned...    B

From what I saw, it’s replacing The Talk.

The article Mark cited here (link) said one ends in December, and the other hopes to launch in January...    B
