A 50-year-old meathead?Mike and Gloria should not be over 25. 27 tops.Cuoco is 33 - a step in the right direction after 39-year-old Ellie Kemper, who looked way too old to be Harrelson's daughter - but still too old.

Personally, I’d prefer the network rerun the original series, as I suspect it would mostly hold up and be frighteningly relevant, but they won’t out of fear the ratings for a 50-year-old show would be higher than anything currently produced and broadcast.

Edith doesn't exist in today's world: a working class woman who didn't work outside the home because that was what was expected of her. Mike's liberalism doesn't have a place in today's political landscape. The biggest thing, though, is that Archie is never called to account for his bigotry. He's protected by his privilege. He might be called out for his language or behavior by the other characters but he doesn't suffer more than a rebuke.
The other thing about rerunning the original series is how it would look in HD. If the original was shot on film and the production company wanted to spend the money to make an HD print from the negative it might look okay. Otherwise it would be visually unappealing enough to keep anybody who wasn't watching for nostalgia's sake to avoid sitting through an episode.

One of my daughters lived in Astoria for a year recently; not sure Archie would feel at home anymore

I suffered through the first iteration of this and found it almost as painful as the originals. Lear's shows (like Sorkin's) love nothing more than preaching to the choir while thinking they're changing people's minds.
