NYC theater folks are split about this. Lots of griping that the show's original cast have been dumped.

Speaking as a reformed NY theater person, they're going to get their gander up whenever the original cast isn't used for a film, but the fact of the matter is that Broadway actors aren't always right for the screen, and sometimes less so for TV.

Were I a member of that cast, I would be thanking providence that my connection with the show would be limited to the poor suckers who suffered through it in New York. While I agreed with its politics and sentiment, I found that it substituted self-congratulatory smugness for actual entertainment value or humor. On top of that, it had the most egregious product placement I've ever seen on stage or screen. I can only hope it fades away as much as it deserves to.
