I'll admit I have not watched the recent Sandler Netlix productions.....
But Kevin's comment reminds me of a story. My youngest son was age ~12. I think it was Spike TV or maybe Comedy that was showing Blazing Saddles. I have a memory of watching that movie with my Dad. The campfire bean fart scene specifically; plus the scenes around the WB lot. Anyway, I tell my son "we're going to watch this movie. We are going to watch the whole thing. It's funny -- trust me".
Well I had to pause the TV right after I heard them reference the N*gger Sherrif and explain the whole racism thing to him... and the old days.
On a semi-related note, when he was in grades 1-2 we always heard my son talking about his good friend at school. After about two years the friend finally comes to our house for a visit on a Saturday. We had no idea the kid was coloured (bi-racial? coloured? white-mom, black-dad). We are Caucasian. After the friend left, we asked my son "in 1-2 years you've never mentioned that he was coloured?" His answer: "that doesn't matter. Why would I tell you?." It was a proud day as a parent.
