Yeah, he was scheduled to appear the last time Colbert had to take a week due to his latest bout of COVID.  I guess they can bring him back next month to promote The Color Purple film.  His new album and documentary seem to be doing just fine with the promotion.

They had extra footage from the Spielberg/John Williams interview (which was done at Spielberg's place) that they included it in a second episode, so that could be the case here.  AFAIK, Barbra didn't go to the Ed.  Not that you couldn't do a Questionnairt on the road.

ABC Audio (whatever that is) is reporting that Colbert will be resuming Monday 12/4.  At the same time I received an email from 1iota that the Tuesday 12/5 taping is cancelled. 

I guess we shall see.

I did not want to speculate here, but I had been extremely worried about his well-being. His description is jokey, but it sounds to me like he seriously did come close to dying. For a comparison,  Dallas Cowboy head coach Mike McCarthy had surgery for appendicitis last week, and was back coaching the team within less than 48 hours. The difference I suppose is that McCarthy’s appendix must not have actually burst while Colbert’s did.

When this extended into a second week, I was concerned that it was more serious than had been let on.  But I have no direct or indirect experience with this kind of thing, so I didn't know if it was just the appendix or if the combination of that and Colbert's repeated COVID infections possibly making recovery from anything a longer process for him.

I'm glad he's back, and hopefully cognizant that he's no longer the middle-aged man he was when he started The Colbert Report.
