F Lee Bailey was by most accounts a deeply flawed human being… which made him an amazing lawyer

The Wire's David Simon was not a fan.

Remind me to one day tell the story about how Little Melvin Williams briefly retained Bailey to help fight a ‘67 heroin charge in Baltimore only to have Bailey rain-make him for a pile of cash and leave all the actual casework to local lawyers. With a bigger name, bigger grift.

Nathan Lane did an interview last week, and Patrick Cassidy, who was hosting, asked him if he'd met Bailey to prepare to play him. Lane said they met once briefly after the show aired, and the only question he had was "Did it show that Bob Shapiro was an asshole?" Lane paused a moment, said it did, and Bailey just smiled enigmatically.
