“Max Headroom” is now available on iTunes. The ABC series, not the talk show. Never the talk show. Whatever process they used to convert it to digital resulted in very sharp image quality… better than I remember it being. Then again, I’ve been relying on my VHS to digital conversions for so many years, my mind might have tricked itself into thinking the show was always blurry. 

In hindsight, they got the concept of media monopoly and manipulation spot on, though they mistakenly thought it’d be networks broadcasting with ratings as the only viewer feedback instead of social media companies. But I’ve seen YouTube channels produce content similar to “BigTimeTV” and Max Headroom is basically podcasting with video.

Not available in the UK sadly.

And not the original British TV-movie, Max Headroom: 20 Minutes into the Future even though the ABC series basically remakes this in the first episode. At the time, I was just excited that there was a TV show with some proper production budgets doing grungy future-noir stuff.

That original TV-movie led straight into the chat show in the UK, and for a short while, he was quite the celebrity in the UK, appearing on magazine covers and featuring in an Art of Noise video. 

Somehow I'd missed the news that AMC is remaking Max Headroom, with Matt Frewer set to reprise his role. Given the turbulence at AMC right now, I'm not going to hold my breath.
