The Amazon-owned free streamer perhaps best known as the new home of Judge Judy will change their name as of Apr. 27, with a big original programming mandate coming, along with the library shows and movies and imports (including the easy-to-watch Canadian cop show "Pretty Tough Cases"):


As THR's Lesley Goldberg says, "In terms of other well-known rebrandings, Freevee isn’t as bad as Freeform (formerly ABC Family) and at least it doesn’t have another plus symbol in its name (see Paramount+, formerly CBS All Access)."

"Freevee" isn't the best name ever IMHO, and in the UK is only a couple of letters away from "Freeview" which is the way quite a lot of people watch TV (Digital Terrestrial - i.e. via digital from masts via rooftop antennas). I foresee some confusion and bad jokes.

But I'll forgive them a lot because they've commissioned more Bosch, so I'll be watching for that reason alone.

FreeVee is still a far better name than iMDB TV.

Will they learn how to put the commercials in at the actual commercial breaks of the programs that were designed originally to have commercial breaks?

AdWeek is reporting that Freevee is going to be shut down in the next few months. Unsurprisingly, it seems that it's because there is confusion in the ad market with Amazon having two discrete ad-funded streaming services. It's pretty confusing for consumers too.

There are obviously some big investments on Freevee like the Judge Judy series, and the resurrection of Neighbours. Neither concern me much personally. I'm much more concerned about future seasons of Bosch: Legacy - but I know season 3 has already started shooting, and I assume that it'll just transfer back to the mothership.

I was just coming here to post this link.  We really like the Bosch: Legacy series, so I hope they transfer it to Prime.
