Given each MLB team's only playing 60 max, something must have been worked out...

"As far as the Pirates and Blue Jays 2020 home schedule goes, the two clubs are currently schedule to play their home games on the same date seven times in the schedule, but four of the overlapped "home" games are not until the end of September. As of now, the two clubs both have scheduled home games for July 29, Sept. 8, 9, 21, 22, 23 and 24. It's surely going to be a logistics situation for the league, and they're going to have to figure out the workaround(s) as soon as possible."

Not so fast my friends. The Penna. Department of Health, which may still be bitter over the 1993 World Series, scuttled the plan.

It sure looks like it ain't happening: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/blue-jays-pittsburgh-why-it-works/1cfi00t6k038a1hwi798ah2svh (disregard the link copy).

I have repeatedly taken the stance that the obsession of organized sports to interject itself in the middle of a national health crisis is an indictment of the entire field. That MLB literally has a homeless team 48 hours before this farce is supposed to begin is where I'd laugh if I didn't know people who have Covid-19.

I didn’t hear why Buffalo didn’t work for them.
They were offered Truist Park in Charlotte but turned it down.

My understanding is that the stadium in Buffalo needs some lighting upgrades to be fully up to major-league standards.

Another possibility at one point was the Blue Jays' spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida, but that was ruled out due to both the continued high number of cases in Florida, and the high chance of evening thunderstorms in the Tampa Bay area in the summer months.

Any minor-league stadium would also need some work to be fully hooked up to the MLB replay system, as well as the Statcast measuring devices.

Minor league facilities aren't major league facilities. Not just in terms of the lighting problems that Jim mentioned, but I'm sure the clubhouses would be considered cramped under ordinary circumstances. With distancing being a consideration, the AAA parks would be especially problematic.

What about a college ballpark?  LSU has a HUGE facility (at least AAA-sized) - would that work?

Short answer: it might, but the season's started. There's zero chance you could retrofit it in this environment. And again: you have to wire in replay and statcast.

They've now definitively settled on Buffalo, inasmuch as anything can be "definitive" under current circumstances. I guess they've decided the stadium can be made acceptable in time for their first scheduled home game on Wednesday, July 29.

I haven't watched baseball in a few years. I just read up on statcast. Wow , 7 TB of data per game.   Data geeks must have been going nuts the past couple years.

It’s now very common for baseball broadcasts to give the Statcast-measured exit velocity in addition to distance for home runs, for example. Some stadiums also put some of the extended Statcast data on the scoreboard. Dodger Stadium, for example, puts launch angle and hit distance on the scoreboard for every ball a hitter makes contact with.

After all the wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth, the Jays ended up in Buffalo. They're going to have to do some upgrades there, so the first series (at least) will be played on the road. It's unclear at this point if the games in Buffalo will start on August 1 or 11.
