The only thing missing from making the new “Press Your Luck” pitch-perfect is sardonic sidebar commentary during gameplay.

Of all the non-traditional hosts ABC's plucked for Summer Fun & Games, Elizabeth Banks was the one I was most ready to be disappointed by.

I could not have been more wrong.

I see what you did there.

And did you not catch Banks’ commentary on the very first answer on Tuesday’s ep (the “Slim Shady” buzz-in)?

As an old school PYL fan (I remember watching the Michael Larson ep in first run), this revival pleases me. Banks surpassed expectations as not-Tamarkin, and they kept all the classic elements of the original run (rotating set, 2D Whammys, the beep-boop-beep of the lights bouncing around the board, the dramatic split screen on the final spins) without making it feel dated. And I was prepared to hate the new endgame, but they were smart to root it in the main gameplay.

The only minor quibble? Not having commercial breaks before/after the spin rounds made the pacing feel a bit off.

(Oh, and I miss Rod Roddy doing the intro.)

Having met and worked with nearly everybody involved with the original series, I’m pleased this one made a comeback.

The Wednesday ep of card sharks was intense. A come from behind winner, and a guy that lost it all on 3 aces in a row.

First of all, if they had 3 aces in a row, that means somebody did a bad job shuffling the deck.

Second of all, they need to change the rules regarding same-value cards. When the original Card Sharks premiered in 1978, cards in the Money Cards round that were the same value counted as a loss; however, in response to viewer complaints, that rule was changed. From that point on, same-value cards counted as a push - no money won or lost - and the bet was carried through to the next card.

The daytime Card Sharks eventually went overboard trying to guarantee a big payout; by the time of the Bob Eubanks version in 1986, the contestant was allowed to change his/her card three times in the Money Cards round. That was a little ridiculous. But what happened to that second contestant on Wednesday night was ridiculous too.

I'm pretty much in full agreement with BuzzerBlog's review:

Not necessarily. Flukes happen.
