The inauguration will be held in the Capitol Rotunda, with the snow and nasty temps forecast in DC... Capital One® Arena will open to allow lucky folks to watch safely...

It’s because he was afraid there would be extremely low turnout … you know … like there was eight years ago. Moving it inside gives him an excuse for no spectators

Capital One is where the NBA Wizards play.  Capacity can't be much more than 20,000.

In 2009 it was 28 degrees at noon on January 20.  Just sayin'  This isn't likely to be the 7 degrees of 1985.  (insert hell freezing over jokes here).

Sadly, no repeats of the 1841 Inauguration either.

For years I had no clue where it was... might have at some point guessed it was closer to either the old or current football park... try closer to the two most important buildings there...    B

I was there in 2009 with my wife and 3 children. Our California jackets were inadequate, but the joy and optimism kept us warm enough.

It doesn't help that of all the DC-area sports places, it's gone through the most (branded) name changes.

It also doesn't help that there was a Capital Centre (which was close to where the NFL now-Commanders play) back in the day, and the Wizards left there to what is now Capitol One.

Either way, the venue is the closest major space to the Mall and the Capitol, and not far from the usual parade route.

A friend is attending a hockey game there tonight and will be listening to the Commanders game on his phone.

DC came close to "losing" that space when the Governor of Virginia wanted to build a place for the Wizards and Caps to play in Alexandria.  Fortunately, public opposition won out.  But there have been all sorts of problems with the venue, including a severe noise annoyance problem caused by a street band.  My guess is that security won't allow them to play on Monday.
