Her surname rhymes with, f'rinstance, the first name of Owen Wilson.

I'm dang sure some people in media have gotten it right.

GW graduate Jennifer Garner (c/o 90) would have to verify, but I believe it was “Principal L[owen]” on The Hill.

How long has she had a publicist? I know from hockey and soccer broadcasts that announcers have phonetic lists of how the players want their names pronounced. If there is a certain way Lohan wants her surname pronounced her publicist should have been emphasizing that years ago.

I'm surprised this is a big thing all of a sudden, since I thought it was common knowledge.
In fact, I remember the crew on the Preston & Steve Show (WMMR radio in Philly) having a discussion five or ten years ago about how to pronounce her name.

In any event... "LO-en" is the original Irish pronunciation, and "LO-han" is the Americanized pronunciation.
Think of George M. Cohan, whose name is pronounced "CO-en" in Ireland, but "CO-han" in America. (And it's pronounced "CO-han" in that Jimmy Cagney movie too.)
Lots of Irish names are pronounced in this manner - Sheehan, Meehan, Behan, etc. - where the H is basically silent.
Also think of English place names like Birmingham, Buckingham, Tottenham and Oldham which abridge the H sound in the same way.

To be fair, though, I do remember her hosting SNL 15 or 20 years ago and starting her monologue by introducing herself with the American pronunciation. So I guess it's pronounced however she wants it to be pronounced at the time.
