I watched the first half of the season premiere with my mom in law. Seacrest is the generic host; he has no perceptible personality to speak of; he says nothing therefore cannot be onerous or offensive. I noticed he doesn’t use Sajak’s note cards when interviewing contestants; I don’t know if he’s committing fun facts to memory (unlikely) or is getting fed information into his ear via an earpiece or if there are cue cards off camera (impractical).

I asked my mother in law what she thought of him. Her words, “Well, it was his first day… maybe he will grow into the role.” She’s very optimistic if she thinks he’s capable of growing as a performer.
