Democrats are unlikely to hold the House, but I am feeling positive about The Speaker recently because she wrote a formal, public letter to Kaiser Permanente strongly supporting its Mental Health Workers and our Union (NUHW) and urging them to settle the Strike.
We are now in our eighth week of striking (without pay) for improved patient care conditions. California law requires patients to have return appointments at least every two weeks (unless their therapist certifies that a longer wait would not be harmful); most patients wait at least six weeks between appointments. My last day of work my next available appointment was in eight weeks (not uncommon).
I suspect we will be back to work next Monday, with only marginal improvement. Like many of my colleagues, the Strike has made clear to me that I can’t really continue. I have a couple of options, including one with KP but in a different (better) capacity, and hope to be able to pull the trigger on one of them before the end of the year.
