Given that Kimmel & O'Brien tape in CA and the others tape in NYC, it couldn't be the same person unless they're appearing via satellite.

Also, don't Fallon & Colbert usually tape at the same time (or somewhere thereabout)? Has anyone looked to see if the Thursday taping time for either show has shifted?

The first thing I thought of was the night in 1969 or 1970 when Jerry Lewis did walk-on appearances on four late night shows the same night, without telling them ahead of time what he was doing. 

(That was what inspired Merv Griffin to move his show to LA, so he wouldn't have guest line-ups similar to his competition.)

Of course, in those days all four shows - Merv, Johnny, Cavett, and David Frost - taped within a few blocks of each other in Manhattan.

I suppose somebody could do something similar today with Fallon, Meyers and Colbert, but it wouldn't be the same.

Or if the various shows tape this person's segment(s) separately from the rest of the Thursday show.

Conan doesn't have audience tickets listed for this week, so his Thursday show could well have already taped and/or will have an audience of only employees/family members/other people who can be more easily sworn to secrecy.

That isn’t necessarily a problem. I remember at least one time when Dave, in his inimitable fashion, killed time waiting for one of the news anchors to make it over to the Ed by complaining about how he had to kill time and badgering his producer about whether they were there yet. I think it was Couric, but don’t quote me on that.

The standup set he did on Colbert was one of the most painfully unfunny things I’ve ever seen. It played like he felt he didn’t need to prepare material and could just wing it. The conceit (I’m guessing) is that Burgundy is terrible at standup, but it came across as the usual Ferrell driving a stake in the heart of comedy.

It’s time to put this guy out of the public’s misery.

No spoilers, because worst kept non-secret...

While Colbert gave him the whole damn show once he came out, none of the other 11:30 programs did.  Standup, sit down, and out.  Were I Niecy Nash (Reno 911, now lead on TNT's Claws), the only person who got bumped tonight, as far as I can tell, I'd be pissed.

But the 12:30 shows indulged him in different ways...British Jimmy gave him the whole couch after interviewing his scheduled guests earlier in the show, and brought out an animal 'expert' for one of the segments.  Seth let him bring out a ventriloquist's dummy.

Conan...let him do prop comedy.  If Carrot Top is still getting a lot of hate, RB did his best to redirect it.

This anti-comedy stuff (which I think is different from saving a joke or a bit that dies) is really tricky.  Some people (not me) love it when Norm MacDonald does it.  While I don't like him doing it, I don't think he's being lazy about it.  Burgundy (and Ferrell) are lazy.

I suspect he chose to go the whole show on Colbert because of Colbert's improv background. It was painfully unfunny though, like a bad podcast. I tried to make it through the whole show, but I couldn't watch the last segment. 

The idea of someone else being on the Ed Sullivan Show the night the Beatles appeared has comic potential. It'd be interesting to see who else was one that night.

Ron Burgundy as a prop comic could be funny.

I stayed up to watch...... I lasted about 90 seconds into his stand-up on Colbert.... checked Fallon for 5 seconds, then went to bed.

I still haven't seen any of the anchorman movies.

I seem to recall it's been done before, but I can't recall by who -- I want to say it was a sketch that focused on someone offstage who was going on after the Beatles.

In those clips on the above link, it's nice to hear Ray Bloch's band playing for the novelty acts.  The syndicated Sullivan repackage that is currently running on Decades replaces Bloch with a generic circus music written by Andrew Belling, who wrote the theme for the repackage.  Understandably, the producers of the repackage were trying to save money for the music rights for the musical performances, but still...
