M-D November had "seen buzz about" one in the final-season-of-Discovery thread back in March of 2023... with SNW about to end, and even though other projects are rumoured, they have completed an opening season of this, headed for a Jan 15th début and introduced Saturday (10/11) at NY Comic Con... Holly Hunter plays the chancellor, Robert Picardo is back as the holo-Doctor, and Paul Giamatti! has a recurring role as an alien villain:

Well, I really like the Picard series. My experience suffering through the first two or three seasons of discovery were so painful and toxic for me that has really alienated me from any other kind of contemporary trek, Including watching the subsequent seasons of that one series, I can’t remember the name of it. That was actually pretty good.

I echo your sentiments about Discovery. And I also liked Picard. The most recent season of Strange New Worlds was more miss than hit, but overall I enjoy that show. I am not optimistic about Academy. Set in the Discovery universe, full of young cocky kids… reminds me of the satire done during Stargate’s 200th episode when younger recasting occurred, and everybody just made out.

I'll go on record as saying I wasn't crazy about Discovery Season 1 (and, to an extent, season 2, although it did introduce Pike and his Enterprise), but the show found its footing following the time jump into the 32nd century at the beginning of Season 3.  I'm cautiously optimistic for "Starfleet Academy", especially given it's cast (as mentioned, Hunter, Giamatti, Picardo, Colbert - also Mary Wiseman & Tig Notaro providing the linkage to Discovery, and WWE superstar Becky Lynch in an as-yet-unannounced role on the Athena bridge crew). Plus, if you go back and look at the teaser, they're really leaning in to canon/lore (e.g. "What really happened to Captain Sisko?")

As for the other Nu-Trek shows...I'm well documented as being fully in the tank for "Lower Decks" and "Strange New Worlds" (even if the latter didn't have the STRONGEST outing last season, I love the world they've built and their reinvention of the Gorn and use of certain legacy characters has been fantastic).  I had enjoyed "Picard" for what it was, although I think the biggest issues with seasons 1 & 2 was that it wasn't what the fans wanted or expected; we finally got that with Season 3 - the full reunion of the TNG crew, getting to see "The Fat One" save Starfleet one last time, the apparent handoff to the 'new next generation' - and that leaves me wanting the rumored "Star Trek: Legacy" Seven of Nine spinoff more than "Starfleet Academy".  I'd also take what will likely be the successor to SNW featuring the new versions of Kirk & his command staff (I've seen the title "Year One" floating around). But I'll take whatever Trek I can get.
