Jean Marsh had a distinguished career as an actress in films, theater and television in the UK, but the world knew her best as the co-creator (with fellow distinguished actress Eileen Atkins) and co-star of "Upstairs Downstairs," the 70s ITV drama about a wealthy British family and their servants that was widely seen in many countries (including PBS as a strand of "Masterpiece Theatre," and arguably that show's first major hit)--she also worked off-camera on the series' 2010 remake for the BBC, noting that "Downton Abbey" was running at the same time on ITV--she said "it might be coincidence and I might be the Queen of Belgium"--complications of dementia in her London home:
