Curiously, each hour appears as a separate entity in the DVR's program guide.

Did a skim through the first hour. Got tired very quickly of them telling me how unbiased they are. Stopped to enjoy the film of Park Avenue in NYC which was labeled "Washington DC."

I plan to dip in again over the next few days. Waiting to see if they can make even-handedness useful or interesting.

I skimmed the third hour from last night (well, 6th hour - are the WC hours just repeats?). Same reaction as Jon to the constant refrain of “Balance not Bias”, which is both unseemly (like being smart or attractive, one would think being professional at one’s job is something better demonstrated rather than self proclaimed), and for me misses the point. I don’t want “balanced” news, I want accurate news. If there is a day on the campaign trail in which Joe Biden F’s something up really bad, I want the news to cover that well, not look to create artificial balance by covering some relatively minor F-up by Trump (well, it’s a rare day where Trump only has a minor F-up, but you get the point). The constant reminder that balance is their driving value makes me lose confidence in their accuracy.

The one thing I learned in the hour that I did not already know (and know as much or more about) from reading and watching my usual news sources yesterday was the Pope’s first public audience since COVID shutdown. To be fair, I guess I should have sampled the first hour; I had thought each hour would be a full run down of the days news, and the last hour would be the most complete.

I do support the move to have more national newscasts. I’m less bugged by the existence of opinion oriented infotainment on the three cable news channels than the difficulty in finding a couple of hours of straight news on any of them. PBS is still the best at this (though not as good IMO as they once were) and the networks still too brief and hamstrung. I wish a new national newscast could brag less about how BALANCED BALANCED BALANCED they are, and more about the size and experience of their news staffs stationed around the country and around the world.

If NewsNation is just going to be bland anchors reading news from the AP wire, sprinkled with a few superficial human interest Interviews (which is what the third hour felt like to me) then I will get more news in less time by just reading the AP news web page several times a day and getting my human interest interviews from Twitter links, both f which are already part of my daily regime.

I hope some here will monitor NN regularly and let us know if it gets better.

“Two top editors at the channel’s new prime-time newscast resigned amid staff complaints of a right-wing tilt and concern over the involvement of the former Fox News chief Bill Shine.”
