He wouldn't suck.

Too soon?

And he wouldn't have sucked back in 2004-2005 if he was indeed offered the role then.  As much as I enjoy Eccleston's performance, I'd certainly have watched Grant as the Ninth Doctor.

But I do check in only occasionally on the show, depending on how much I'm engaged by whomever the Doctor and Companions are.

Is it accurate to say that only Capaldi had really made a name for himself prior to taking the role?  At least from a U.S. perspective that seems to be the case.

Depends on how aware the US was of Peter Davison’s role on “All Creatures Great and Small.”

Also:
Hugh Grant was a Red Nose Day 12th Doctor back in 1999. If crowned Doctor XIV, he’d be the oldest - born in 1960, he’d be older than Capaldi and Hartnell (both 55 at their début).

Brad - thank you for mentioning "The Curse of Fatal Death" - because I was about to.

BTW - if you haven't seen the aforementioned Red Nose Day sketch, it's an absolute riot, complete with a literal galaxy of stars as various regenerations of The Doctor and Jonathan Pryce stepping in as The Master.  It also served as Steven Moffat's first (semi-official) work on the series.

But he won't. The role will go to Ncuti Gatwa ("Sex Education").
