After all of the stories about the toxicity of Ellen DeGeneres' workplace and the firing of producers for Telepictures who had been creating similar waste dump workplaces for Warner Bros. daytime talkers for years, the ratings have gone down from up there with Dr. Phil and Kelly R. and Seacrest to the middle of the pack with Tamron, Kelly C., Maury, Rachael and Steve--in addition, her prime time NBC show "Ellen's Torture Cham--Game of Games" has taking a ratings dump this season--could this mean that the 2021-22 season, the last under her current Warners contract, could be her last?:

There was a fairly long period of time when, even though the last daytime talk shows I watched with any frequency were Mike Douglas and Donahue, I was at least pretty familiar with the names and the Schtick of most of the programs on air. That has not been true for a long time now. I am familiar with the first two, top rated programs Mark mentions, and have seen a few episodes of each (well, not seen Ripa since she got rid of Regis), but have little or no awareness that the others exist. But from context and spotty memory of pop culture references, let me guess:

Tamron: I can only guess, since the only TV person I know named Tamron is Tamron Hall. Does she really have a daytime talk show?

Kelly C: This I can guess with confidence, since I do watch The Voice, and heard Kelly Clarkston argue recently that the reason a contestant should pick her is she has a talk show.

Maury: WTF? Are you saying A) Maury Povitch is still alive and B) that he still has a talk show? I would have lost $500 betting that neither of those was true.

Rachel: No Clue. Maddow is the only TV Rachel I can think of, and pretty sure she is not doing a daytime talk show.

Steve: No Clue. Pretty sure it’s not Steve Allen. 

What about the female gaggle talk shows? Are they not in the same category as the single/double host shows? Are their ratings closer to the top tier or the middle tier?

Yes, Tamron Hall has a show.
Rachael Ray still has a daytime talk show.
Yeah, Maury lives.  Maybe he got the longevity gene from his pops, who lived into his 90s.
No clue about Steve.  Is Harvey's show still a thing?  I know that Jerry Springer's head of security was Steve and got his own show.  Could be him.

I think the Steve here is Steve Wilkos, Springer's ex-head of security. Steve Harvey's talk show was cancelled a few years ago, I think.

the only reason I know the name Steve Wilkos is because it was on a courtside-promo banner/skirt on NBA playoffs one year.   I have no idea what year that was.

I had a minor dyslexic tic and read Kelly R as R Kelly and thought to myself "How the fuck did he get a show?"

From all the attention to late night talk shows I learned that a show is in trouble only when it can't attract guests. A show's declining ratings play a big part in that as publicists don't want to make their stars available for a show nobody is watching. SHe has made enough money for Telepictures that they aren't simply going to dump her.

Rachael Ray's show, at least the syndicated one, has always been a talk show, with frequent cooking segments.

She first had the cooking show, followed by a talk show featuring cooking segments

The Rachel Ray line of cookware seems reasonably well built and it's not too expensive. Unlike, say, Chrissy Teigan.

It's inexpensive but the construction seems decent. It's induction compatible. It's good for say a college student.

Well, it looks pretty enough, but the non-stick surface is low-grade and easily scratches, and the construction method results in an inconsistent cooking surface... so, yes, perfect for a college student.

"The View" and "The Price is Right" are pretty close to each other at 11 a.m.--recent ABC News promos proclaim it the number one daytime talk show (yes, it's officially under the news department nowadays).  "The View" has the younger audience, as anyone who pays attention to the commercial breaks on "Price" knows.  Hoda and Jenna (aka the fourth hour of "Today") is technically considered a morning show, not daytime, because it is considered part of "Today."  "The Talk" beats "General Hospital" in most markets at 2 p.m.  ("Days"' official time is 1 p.m., although NBC feeds it overnight and stations can air it anywhere in daytime).  Of course, these are network shows and not syndicated.  The only syndicated panel I know of is "The Real," which is mostly on Fox/CW/MyTV affils and gets lower ratings as a force of habit for most first-run syndicated shows those stations carry that aren't named "Family Feud."

I would be curious what the future of "GMA3:  What You Need to Know" is.  It popped up when the pandemic hit and everyone knew they couldn't do the lite-and-brite format of "Strahan, Sara and Keke" under the circumstances.  As nice as it is to have a network newscast at midday, I would be curious that when things open up (and the show dropped its primary emphasis on COVID a long time ago) if they will try to bring back Michael Strahan with a lite talk format or try something else (like daytime versions of, say, "Pyramid" with Strahan and "Match Game" with Laura Benanti?).
