In the UK, the BBC has reheated old episodes of "Total Wipeout" as it's called here. They've used two of the current Top Gear presenters to add new voiceovers to the old episodes. Ironically, the episodes originally had voiceovers by Richard Hammond, a previous Top Gear presenter.
The format was already incredibly cost effective. Local country versions were made globally, and contestants were flown to a fixed set in Argentina where a local crew basically ran a fulltime production line. Local countries just added their presenting teams - with Hammond never stepping foot outside a UK studio.
I can't help feeling that Netflix's success with Floor is Lava - which is essentially the same game - has precipitated much of this.
