COVID pushed the annual tribute to the pioneering Black baseball star from April 15th to Thursday (28), but an already-shaky situation stemming from protest postponements in the NBA and NHL -- a few MLB teams followed suit, or were thinking of same -- was saddened by the reports of Chadwick Boseman, 43, losing his battle with colon cancer...

News of Chadwick’s death has been devastating in my household. It is difficult to articulate what he has meant, as an actor and a man.

I would quibble a bit though with your setup here. I would not describe the sports situation the last two days as “shaky”; “inspirational” has been more like it. Also, not sure the NHL deserves to be in that same sentence as the NBA. The basketball players (women and men) have been providing real leadership on social justice issues, while the hockey league had to be shamed into cancelling events a day late.

I readily admit to grasping for a choice of descriptive word there... the original likely came from the initial reaction of shakenness athletes may have felt... the "oh [bleep], again???" feeling.

Gotcha, that makes sense. I think you are right that even though Chadwick was killed by cancer and not a police bullet, coming at the end of an already unsettling week it felt of a piece with what happened in Wisconsin, emotionally if not logically.

Commercial-free airing of Black Panther (in which he starred for Marvel Studios, kin to them) tonight on ABC, followed by a news-special remembrance...  https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/abc-sets-sunday-primetime-tribute-to-chadwick-boseman (link)
