I don’t mean this to be glib, but I genuinely thought he died years ago.

I figured he was older than 87.  Like nearly old enough to get his birthday mentioned on the air.  I didn't know (or remember, I'm not sure which) that he started at NBC in his teens.

Don’t worry; I’m surprised when certain celebrity obits pop up. (Some Morning Zoo radio show somewhere needs to resurrect Remote Control’s “Dead, Alive, or Canadian” category as a faux-educational service.)

As a Canadian, I wish I could hear that kind of content.

Semi-related.... The SiriusXM Hits1 morning Show started The Age Game where the hosts try to guess the ages of "famous" people.    No hilarity ensues.

It just happens that BBC Radio 4 started last week on Tuesday nights in their 6:30 p.m. comedy/panel/quiz slot a show called "The Birthday Cake Game," which is a panel show with a similar premise.  It's hosted by Richard Osman, the sidekick to Alexander Armstrong on BBC1 TV's "Pointless" game show (and host of "Richard Osman's House of Games," which comes on after "Pointless" goes off at 6 p.m. on BBC2) and is produced by the same company that produces those TV shows.  Of course, this show is dependent on a panel that's witty or caustic and based on the first episode the show isn't really there yet.  Available in podcast form off of BBC Sounds and probably the usual podcast feeders that take Beeb podcasts.

Agreed. I spent much of the first episode wondering if I'd want to listen to the second. Hard to describe the game format without using the word "pointless."
