Tonight's episode just started in the Eastern time zone, and Stephen is back at it with a new monologue (and probably another segment or two) before rerunning recent interviews.  We get to see a different part of Stephen's house and Jon Batiste appears briefly playing the opening theme (presumably from his place) in a box during the credits.

He doesn't seem as manic as last night, but he's still not comfortable doing it like this.

I understand Kimmel did a monologue from his house last night.  How does it compare?  I work retail so I don't have nearly as much time on my hands as I'd like.  (Today's sewage flood didn't help.)

At the end of his standup shows, Lewis Black does a segment where he reads rants written by the ticket-holders. Since his shows were cancelled, he decided to sit and rant in an empty theater. It was very cathartic to watch, and it is worth mentioning Black has a theatrical background. He can emote on a stage, with or without an audience. A few other late night hosts could take lessons from him. I mean, they really should... they have free time now.

Kimmel's monologue. He called it a minilogue.

I was mistaken, Kimmel did that minilogue tonight.  Not to be ignored (except by his kids), New York Jimmy enlisted his wife to shoot a segment from his house.

Both plan to do this nightly, soliciting donations for charities.

I'm wondering if the Jimmys just got bored, or figured they could do better than Stephen did on Monday.

After Colbert's segment was over, Batiste played a long version of the theme on his piano.

I think it's going take them some time to figure out exactly how they want to do this, and, unfortunately, it looks like they'll have the time.

It wasn't nearly as ambitious as Colbert's. Again, they'll have time to figure out how they want to do this. (I haven't watched Fallon yet.)

Stay well. (That goes for everyone else here, too.)

Maybe Colbert will go back to playing the longer, slower version of his theme song with all the animation.

Kimmel/s latest minilogue. He gets William to join in.

Based on what Stephen said during tonight's home monologue, the Late Show is planning to keep to its break schedule, which starts tomorrow and runs through next week.  Thursday is what would have been the first official night of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

Since what the US Jimmys have been doing is much more low-tech, they may continue it next week while their staffs take the planned time off.

Haven't watched this one yet, but The Daily (social distancing) Show is doing the daily online video (with a designated charity) thing too.

Tonight's minilogue.

The bit with Italian mayors is great. Here's another he didn't include.

British Jimmy introduces tonight's repeat (his first episode) with a brief video of him from home.  Today is the fifth anniversary of his Late Late Show, for which Kevin may no doubt have something pithy to say.  Jimmy alludes to a planned 5th anniversary program that might be the first thing this virus cancels that I won't be bothered about.

Since nobody's posted it yet, Kimmel's Friday Minilogue with Guillermo and Will Arnett. He'll be on the air from home Monday.

Best late night Corona joke so far by John Oliver tonight, doing his show from home, this time with a blue background instead of the white background used from whatever alternative studio he used last week.

Credit Where Credit Is Due Dept.:

I bitched about Colbert's sub-standard monologues from home, but he and Oliver were superb Monday night, as was Oliver's own show Sunday. I don't know if there was a pre-interview, but it sure didn't feel like it. It ended up being a great conversation between two guys who are basically peers, had nothing to plug, and were more interested in entertaining each other than in playing to the crowd. If this is what the next few weeks are going to be like, I look forward to them. I was, frankly, surprised that Colbert had those interviewing skills in him.

It reminded me of nothing so much as probably the last Late Show Robin Williams did with Dave. Rather than doing his usual "Isn't Robin wacky?" schtick, the two of them sat and reminisced about the early days at the Comedy Store. It was relaxed and spontaneous and two guys who met later success talking about starting out.

Afterward, I tuned to NBC to catch Myers's show, but am currently suffering through Fallon talking to Jon Bon Jovi and, for the umpteenth time, Fallon showing has no business being on television.

More of the former and less of the latter, please.

Crap. CBS put Colbert behind a paywall.

Had to be. SC never had fewer than 8-10 eps free any time I ever looked.
