Huw Edwards, a veteran of 40 years with the Beeb and anchor of what was "The 10 O'Clock News" and now is "BBC News at Ten" (even if ITV's newscast has been "News at Ten" for decades) and event coverage, mysteriously left the pubcaster in April and now we know why--he has been accused to alleged "indecent images of children" on WhatsApp:

He will appear in court tomorrow.

One of the Brits may be able to chime in with more, but I believe that he hadn't been seen on air in quite a while even before his departure. IIRC, he never returned from an extended "mental health" leave that began shortly after one of the tabloids published allegations that he paid a teenager a lot of money to send him pictures of herself. I believe the eventual conclusion was that there was nothing illegal in those pictures, but I guess either there was a reconsideration or something else turned up.

Based entirely on reports, Edwards came off air in July 2023 and hasn't been seen on screens since. He formally left the BBC in April, reportedly resigning on "medical advice."

Reports now suggest that he was actually arrested in November 2023 and charged last month. It's worth noting that Police mugshots are not normally made public in the UK.

From the Met Police: "Media and the public are strongly reminded that this is an active case. Nothing should be published, including on social media, which could prejudice future court proceedings."

A reminder again that we in the UK have very different laws surrounding what can and cannot be reported until such time as any court trials have taken place, compared with the US.
