Frequently sat in with Paul Shaffer and his band, wrote Tom Snyder’s CBS theme song. Famously heard accompanying David Bowie on “Young Americans.” Won some Grammys, too.

Several years ago, Sanborn and Bob James (oblig. TV connection: composed the music for "Taxi") did a small tour performing their 1986 smooth jazz collab "Double Vision".  James lives in my neck of the woods, so he arranged for a stop at Interlochen Arts Academy, and I was able to get front row center tickets.  

I don't know what damage I did to my hearing by being eight feet away from the bell of Sanborn's instrument for the night, but it was worth it, because damn, could he play the hell out of a saxophone.

I saw that tour too, in 2013, at the Keswick in Philadelphia. Not nearly as close as you, but I still loved every minute of it.
