At the end of May, said the NYT ($, as it's not virus-related*)

NBC/MSNBC News is beyond a joke. Almost daily they provide the Trump cult with all the ammunition they need to keep claiming #FakeNews. Lack has been either oblivious or culpable of the systemic problems the organization has, from the over-opinionated non-journalism practiced on most of MSNBC’s programming to the barely staffed newsroom at the main network. They either need to revamp the entire news division or just scrap it.

P.S. - Meet The Press is a travesty, a waste of a time slot, and everyone involved with the show dating back to the horrendously bad (late) Tim Russert, needs a paddling

If this leads to Chuck Todd being removed from MTP, I would consider it a win. He is the total shits.

I could offer a more nuanced dispute if Kevin’s global dismissal of all of NBC News, but trust that can be taken as read. Totally agree about MTP, both about the bogus hagiographic reputation of Russert, and the even worse performance of Todd.

The odd thing about Todd is that it seems that absolutely nobody likes him. This is not a case of someone who panders to one part of the ideological spectrum and is bashed by the other. Nor is it really the case of a moderate or independent non ideological professional getting criticized by partisans. Everyone I have ever seen give an opinion about Todd has a very negative one (I happen to be writing this during a Pt No-Show, watching Chuck Todd’s morning news show).

Why does this guy still have a job? With the opening in MSNBC’s evening schedule we have seen that Todd seems to think he has the standing in house to demand a prime time slot. Perhaps he was another Lack guy, and with his departure perhaps merit will take over again.

Variety learns that NY state attorney general Letitia James' office last year launched its own investigation of NBC News... neither side will comment, the state in part due to the virus-related closure of the office... Megyn Kelly and Linda Vester admit to having been interviewed by the OAG, as does Addie Zinone, former production assistant who accused Matt Lauer...

Im just going to leave this Tweet here (which leads to MANY others) detailing how Chuckie Todd got his ass handed to him today by Symone Sanders. Wish more cable news guests would do this.

Following the success of the Moneyball approach in sports and Freakonomics approach to economics, there was a move to a more data driven approach in other fields. Nate Silver led this in political analysis, and there was backlash in other fields, the mainstream news media pretended it was for amateurs and hobbyists. Chuck Todd took it seriously and as the approach proved its worth Todd's image began to rise in NBC News. Todd didn't build his own data driven models or even understand how the models were built. In his early days he would appear on panels on political news shows and where other journalists would report from their sources, Todd would report from FiveThirtyEight or other publicly available sources. It made Todd appear innovative and forward thinking even though he wasn't the one analyzing the data. Now that the news media have all accepted the FiveThirtyEight approach as mainstream Todd doesn't stand out from the pack. So Todd doesn't (and can't) bring anything new to Meet The Press. His political instincts and biases are the same as all the others'.

I remember him well as a political analyst, he was pretty good at that. I think he still might be good at it (he was a more mellow Steve Kornacki). He was also a Russert man, which made him well connected. The problem was that he has never been qualified for any job he got after that. He was a bad WH Correspondent, and even worse than Russert at MTP (though he does less damage because his footprint is not as large).

Here's the maddening thing: there's an absolutely valid question buried in the word salad that comes out of Todd's mouth. But somehow he manages to botch it so badly that Sanders (and deservedly so) just blows him out of the water.
