The "Great Pumpkin" and "Christmas" specials' contracts with ABC apparently have run out... there will be a window during which even nonsubscribers will be able to watch...

Once again the Thanksgiving special gets no love.  I admit it's not at the same level, but it's not the Arbor Day special either.

Don't worry, "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" is also going to Apple TV+ as well, and will get a similar three-day free window.

In the official press release from Apple and Wildbrain, the Thanksgiving special is clearly mentioned and put on equal footing with "Great Pumpkin" and "Christmas."

(And, it is mentioned at the very end of the Vulture article... just not at the beginning.)

Furthermore, it seems likely - even though the press release doesn't explicitly say so - all the other old Peanuts specials are going to Apple TV+ sooner or later as well; all Peanuts specials, not just the big three, are all suddenly unavailable on other digital platforms.

AP: Charlie Brown specials to air on TV, after all, in PBS deal

[snip]

On Wednesday, Apple bowed to the backlash, announcing it had teamed up with PBS for ad-free broadcasts of “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” (on Nov. 22) and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” (on Dec. 13).

The shows will air on both the mainline network and the PBS Kids subchannel at 7:30 p.m. ET, so if one station isn't carrying it whoever runs PBS Kids will have it available there.  No scheduled PBS Kids repeats, and I'm suspecting no mainline PBS repeats.  They may not even allow a delayed telecast, but as usual with PBS programs, check local listings.

Also, many PBS stations do pledge drives in early December and I am wondering if stations will be allowed to run pledge breaks around "Charlie Brown Christmas" on Dec. 13.  I assume that it's probably too late to secure any Peanuts-related premiums to offer on-air.  The pitching would be obvious:  "Thanks to public television, your family got to enjoy 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' on free TV once again this year.  To make sure that holiday family programs like this one are available free in your home every year, it's time for you to...."

Here in L.A., "Thanksgiving" is running on primary PBS station KOCE -- both the main channel and their PBS Kids subchannel -- and simultaneously on secondary PBS station KLCS's main channel, but apparently not their version of the PBS Kids subchannel.

Main-channel-only for WLVT (Allentown) and WHYY (Philly)... I think Service Electric dropped the generic PBS Kids.   B
