The Denver/New England game first got moved from today to tomorrow afternoon (10/12) after a player tested positive for COVID... now it's put off till next week, forcing another game to later in the season, after several more positives...

Some of the commentators I've watched are thinking the league will push back the postseason a week so all the reg-season games can be accounted-for... nothing official yet...

That ain't happened yet, but a SLEW of games have been switched around... meaning no game this Thursday.

You know, it's almost like the mere idea of play farces of sporting events in the middle of a pandemic involving likely aerosol transmission of the bug is an insulting idea, outrageously high risk, and catastrophically stupid!

But then the European football leagues, the NHL, NBA, and after an iffy start MLB, have all found ways of returning to playing without a catastrophic collapse. It's tough to demand one sport cancel its season while others successfully go on.

That said, the powers that be in the NFL were overly optimistic by not building some kind of cushion in for delaying games. When one team has positive tests two teams are affected by the need to reschedule the game. Players don't get paid for games they don't play so there will be a lot of pressure from the NFLPA to keep the league from declaring forfeits. There has been some public grousing from Steelers players who were forced to take an early bye week and then have mostly road games in the second half of the season. They feel they have been put at disadvantage by Tennessee's reckless behavior. The more disruptions to the schedule that occur, the more grousing there will be.

Semi-related, while the NBA did stay mostly in a bubble, upon hearing the news the Lakers won, many in LA (predictably) took to the streets to celebrate a victory they had nothing to do with (I’ll never understand this aspect of sports). So although the wealthy players stayed safe, the people whose health care is statistically not as good gathered en masse to probably cause yet another Covid spike, and that pisses me off. Taking to the streets to protest the wrongful murder of an unarmed black man is one thing, but there was no need for last night’s exhibition. It potentially cost lives, and it is the most egregious and gross type of public display.

This week both my wife and I celebrate our respective birthdays, and the total number of people who celebrated with us last night was 7, and everybody stayed outside and socially distanced. We’d have preferred a bigger party with more people (and cake), but we respect each other and those around us too much to take stupid chances.

So to sports fans who need their sports, f*ck you. To the people of LA who partied in the streets, f*ck you. You’re thoughtless and stupid, and I’m tired of you. Quit being a$$holes. Just f*cking quit it.

Note that I didn't say they couldn't do it. I simply declared it insulting (by using up testing capabilities that should be available to the general public), outrageously high risk (for US football, where there is literally contact on every play), and catastrophically stupid (especially in college football, where they're already violating rules that have the strength of wet toilet tissue with social distancing that should shame the universities). Lauren Theisen nailed it Sunday: "What if Nick Saban, faced with a must-win game against Auburn in late November, publicly and emphatically demands that Alabama allow a full house at Bryant-Denny? Who’s going to tell him no?"

And it sure looks like FIFA, in their infinite wisdom, is going to keep going with European friendlies (exhibition games) As someone noted on Defector, even the NFL knew not to play those.

I got into a significant argument with a friend who insisted she needed her baseball while I told her there was absolutely zero chance I would watch a moment of Cubs baseball this year. She thinks I'm a stick in the mud. I fundamentally consider sports to be the lowest priority. And watching people act as if sports are deserving a moment of our energies, monies, or efforts while everything else is completely out of control is insulting to society.

Kevin and Susan, happy birthday!

We recently celebrated a birthday in our house at the end of September.   Ya know what is a weird tradition?    Exhaling your breath all over a cake, just before you serve it to all your guests.   We did not use candles this time.

Thanks, I’ll pass your greetings onto Susan. She feels about a TV message board the way I feel about her InstaPot Facebook page. It’s ok to have independent interests.

Yep. We went with brownies and ice cream
