Laurel Goodwin, 79, made her film début in Elvis Presley's Girls! Girls! Girls!, and featured in the first "Star Trek" pilot... while NBC mulled it over, she was offered two other sitcom-pilot roles, both of which (A) she turned down, and (B) went on to be very successful... she studied acting with Jeff Corey, and when he wasn't available, Leonard Nimoy...

When I mentioned to my brother that this episode aired within the last few weeks on H & I, he said that they did not air it as a two-parter anymore.  I recall seeing the B&W remastering of "Cage," so I wonder how long ago that happened... obviously CBS/Par at least agreed to this, if not deciding it...     B

I don't think the pilot was ever a two-parter, but I also don't remember seeing it that often, if ever, in syndication.  The episode - The Menagerie - that reused lots of material from The Cage, was broadcast as a two-parter.

The Cage was first released to video around 1986, and the remastering was probably at the same time (2008-2009?) as the rest of the first series.  Stations also broadcast the remastered episodes in syndication at that time, so that was probably the first time The Cage was broadcast outside of some anniversary commemorations.

This is my understanding as well. The Cage, a standard length for a one hour pilot, was never a two-parter, but was not broadcast in syndication until the late 80s; The Menagerie was always shown in two parts in syndication (and first run). Perhaps Bob’s brother meant that these days whenever the Menagerie is broadcast part 1 and 2 are shown consecutively?

Having been doing something else at the time, I did not notice what exactly was shown that night on H & I... the way brother spoke, only Part 1 aired, then the following night, apparently, "The Conscience of the King."

H & I never shows multiple episodes of any Trek at any time.     B
