Given that a lot of these self-selected rankers are just based on hours consumed, then shows with vast numbers of easily digestible episodes that can act as a kind of audio-visual wallpaper are always going to do well.
And I wouldn't be surprised if some random episode of Gold Rush regularly gets more viewers in its first week than whatever prestige HBO Sunday night drama is on air (Game of Thrones and its spin-offs excluded).
