Robert and Michelle King chose to display the above instead of a scene in the current episode of "The Good Fight" rather than have Standards and Practices scuttle the whole episode.

A CBS A.A. spokesperson told Deadline: “We had concerns with some subject matter in the episode’s animated short. This is the creative solution that we agreed upon with the producers.”

Kevin M, to moi, today (5/05):
What the actual fuck?

Michael Ausiello had a contextual explanation: "[T]he Kings presumably were going to clue viewers in on the morally flexible lengths some U.S. companies will go to in order to break into the lucrative Chinese market"... possibly incriminating against the parent company?

Ok, but that’s not a standards and practices issue as online content is unregulated, and metaphorical biting the hand that feeds you would fall outside their jurisdiction anyway.

I suspect this will end in either a huge payout to the show’s producers or a court battle.

I assume the CBS legal department falls under the umbrella of what's being referred to as "standards and practices" here.

I also don't see why there would be a payout or a lawsuit over this, any more than when CBS has refused certain Chuck Lorre vanity-card screeds, and he's been allowed to call out CBS and direct viewers to a URL instead.

It'll be interesting to see if this short makes it to the UK airing. We're a couple of weeks behind though - so we won't find out until a week Thursday.

I've only recently come to The Good Fight, having binged seasons 1 and 2 before starting 3. Never watched The Good Wife. But it has rocketed to being one of my favourite shows on television - and definitely the most political.

NPR talked with the segment's animator Steve Angel this morning. The clip apparently included images you can't see in China - Falun Gong, President Xie-as-Winnie the Pooh, et al.

For what it's worth - this episode aired in the UK last night, complete with the Censored notice. I guess that wasn't surprising since it was done at a studio level. Actually very entertaining on an episode that tackled the show's fictionalised version of Google creating a censored version of its product in China...

Can I ask a stupid question? Isn't it possible the Kings put the "CBS HAS CENSORED THIS CONTENT" message in the show themselves? They went really meta in "BrainDead"; they've never gone that way with "Good Wife" before, but...maybe this is a tonal shift?

There was an animated short produced and ready to go. Don't think this link ever made it to this thread -- here's more info on the situation.
