I love the story Peter Frampton tells. A&M signed him and he put a few albums out. One did okay, but not much from the others. But he had this idea for an ambitious double live album. The record execs weren’t feeling it and they were only going to put out a single album.

Either Moss or Herb Alpert would listen to an album before it got the final go ahead to press it. Moss came to listen to Frampton’s album. He sat on a couch or bench facing the speakers. Frampton was at an elevated table behind him. Moss sat and listened to the album, not saying a word. The album ends. Moss stands and slowly turns and says to Frampton, “Where’s the second half of my album?”

And that’s how “Frampton Comes Alive” got made. He had to go out and record three or four more songs to fill out the double album.
