One more year for Corden and then he's gone:

The link predicts that his replacement will come from elsewhere at Paramount Global, in particular either Trevor Noah or Showtime's Desus and Mero.  I have the feeling that no matter what it will be a BIPOC or a woman or both.

There's no way his final show can top Craig's last song and dance.

Keep Bangin on that drum.

My basic thoughts, other than relief at one less Jimmy in late night.

Will CBS bother with a replacement?  Late night, at least in my lifetime, has been something mostly of interest to NBC.  Without Dave, there wouldn't be any CBS late night to speak of, and certainly not a second hour of it.

If they bother, will they put it on the network or go straight to the plus?

Will it be in California?  I think it would be a little silly to have yet another late night show in the Big Apple, and I'm persuaded that it makes sense for bookings to have network shows near where much of the U.S. television production still is.

Who would host?  I think it would depend in part on if it stays in California, but I agree that it seems likely to not be an old white guy.

Desus and Mero are very Bronx, but that is perhaps third on my list of reasons why I think they wouldn't do it.  First is their propensity for all kinds of network-unfriendly content and second is that they are probably good with doing a show once or twice a week.  Much as I'd like to add my favorite link from their show, they did a segment recently where they were forced to work clean and failed miserably - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QZtEvfG4g0

As for Trevor, I guess?  It makes sense to me that the 11:30 and 12:30 shows are distinct from each other, and I'd think that a Colbert-Noah block would just seem like one big show.  Of course, they might want that?

Corden leaving late night is one of the best things that could happen to it, second only to Fallon moving on.

I'd think CBS would just let the franchise die. Local stations would appreciate the extra revenue and the network would probably be happy to save (the minimal) amount in the budget. (One imagines that the only reason they stayed with the show after Ferguson was that Moonves was so smitten with Corden [of course, he was also smitten with Chen, and we know what a bum deal that turned out to be ...]).

That said, if they do keep the LLS going, I'd guess it stays in LA. Not only does it give them something to put in Television City, it also gives them access to guests on the west coast (this is another reason TTS being in Rockefeller Center is so baffling; but then, everything from Fallon on up baffles me on that show ...).

Moving Noah to the mothership makes no sense in my mind. Despite how he's destroyed the DS franchise, he's doing everything there that he could want to do in a late night show, moving to 12:30 feels like a downward step, and he's probably got only a few years left before he moves on to expand his comedy and producing career (he's already sold a show to NBC).

If they do keep the LLS going, though, I'd agree that the best thing to do would be to have a woman or a POC host.

Social media is abuzz with the rumor (or should I say rumour?) that Corden might be tapped to be the next regeneration of The Doctor.

I'm not a big Who fan... but does the Doctor character usually sing horribly?

At least in modern Who the Doctor tends not to sing.

I figured since Corden was already on two episodes of Who he probably wasn't going to be the next Doctor.  And yes, I know they made an exception with Capaldi.

Also, aren't Daily Mail pieces written with the same amount of journalistic rigour as Piers Morgan's work?

Regardless, kudos to Mr. Corden's publicist(s).

For those unaware, there is a notorious in-story incident where Colin Baker (who would play 6) played a guard who stungunned the Fifth Doctor. (The video below posits that 6’s look is for the same plot reason as 12’s – to serve the Doctor as a reminder.)

V is just now reporting what Ron found in the Mail back in May... apparently his Fulwell 73 partner Mr Turner had to confirm it to them... he did so at the Banff World Media Festival in Canada...
Asked whether the [company] will continue working with CBS on its next late-night iteration following the British host’s departure, Turner said “it’s all conversations that are ongoing” but teased that some news will be dropping shortly about the company’s plans.

James Corden was banned from a New York restaurant for abusive behavior, then the ban was rescinded.

That McNally might make a great host, although it'll take someone outside of CBS/Paramount to actually enlighten him about that, and by then Corden's replacement will have been found.

What McNally did was obnoxious and unethical. He owns a private business and if he wants to ban a customer for objectionable behavior, I have no problem with that. But to shame the customer in public is over the line.

Corden’s public apology puzzles me. If he felt like he did something wrong, his publicist could say it’s a private matter and he could make a private apology to the restaurant owner and/or the staff. If he felt like he was in the right, he could call out the restaurant for having substandard food and service. A public apology just looks like he’s begging to be let back in.

In a related story, USA Today attempts to answer the question: "Why do we hate celebrities?"

Since, as Kate Eakins of Evansville responds, "James Corden turns up like mold in your apartment; somehow everywhere despite how much you bleach."

Was the apology public? I thought the piece said that Corden apologized to the owner and the owner made it public. But I did not read the original article so I may have missed something.

I eat out fairly often and try to always be forgiving of any problems. Serving and cooking is a tough job. Plus I am not comfortable pissing off people who handle food I am about to put in my mouth. My wife in the other hand, while not a total Dick, takes the position that we are paying a pretty high price for food and service, and if it is not as expected we should make it known. The main result of all that is I tip a bit over average.

I can’t remember a time, in a nice restaurant, where, if I politely brought a problem to my servers attention it was not resolved quickly and effectively, often with part or all of the order being put on the House. The only time I can remember demanding to be given food for free is when we were made to wait like an hour for the food which we then had no time to fully eat as we had to get to the theater. The manager saw me getting upset and rushed over to tear up the check. Afterwards I did feel a bit like a jerk for overreacting, and went back the next day and apologized and offered to pay. He refused but thanked me.

McNally announced the ban on Instagram, then posted that Corden called him to apologize and he was rescinding the ban. None of this should have been made public as it was a dispute between restaurant management and a customer. Reading the articles doesn’t give me an impression of Corden as much as it does McNally and it’s not a good one.

Restaurants make errors all the time and customers generally have the social tools to resolve the problem without blowing up. I have heard of the 86 list, usually in a neighborhood bar. The people on that list drink too much and become abusive to the staff or other patrons. And that could have been Corden’s problem: he was drunk and couldn’t resolve the problem calmly.

And as Jimmy-boy was enjoying breakfast with Dave Itzkoff of the Times (at a different spot), a nearby customer ruined his chance to discuss "Mammals," LLS, or anything else, when she had her own gripe for a waiter about her eggs...

I was about halfway through this when I realized I don't care enough about Corden to pay attention to whether he's canceled or not. I found him irritating when I first saw him in "The History Boys" (which was a play and production I hated) and my opinion of him has only lessened in the intervening years.

Corden spoke his piece on Monday's episode, noting servers had brought his wife something he knew she was allergic to.
I consider this closed.

If she's allergic to egg whites, why did she order an omelette?

Corden appeared on Kimmel to promote his Sirius XM show.
He said no one believes he wasn't fired.
