A rules change allowed the nonprofit network to add them to the usual government system during the speaker vote... the old way "lacks the transparency that C-SPAN, as a journalistic institution, is able to provide," griped Susan Swain in a letter to Speaker McCarthy...

To be fair, it was a lack of rules, or at least of rules imposed by House members, as the only thing that House members could do was elect a Speaker.  The last time they needed more than one vote there wasn't television.  Anywhere.

The Clerk of the House may have authorized (or didn't object to) the additional cameras, as that office would have been the only one with authority to do so during this open period, and it likely recognized the unusual nature of last week's shenanigans.

FWIW, the Clerk position is elected every two years, after the initial House organizing is complete.  Some deference appears to be given to the incoming Speaker's preference.  But given the current crop of chowderheads, I have no idea what will happen.

Pull out every last camera and microphone and maybe somebody might actually do something other than talk

The Clerk was re-elected during the routine proceedings that took place immediately after the election of the speaker.

Whatever microphones the laptops in the press gallery have won't pick up even adequately amplified speeches. They're not going back to the dark ages, and partisanship and infighting must be witnessed by those these folks are supposed to be governing.
