Don’t blame Chris Cuomo for his brother’s actions. Blame him for his own actions.

Don’t forget to blame CNN’s news directors, assignment editors, segment producers, and — because he’s always worthy of blame for something — go ahead and blame Don Lemon, too.

Not seeing any verification of this story, but if a source comes forward, he needs to be off the air

I don’t think it’s a question of how well sourced the story is; the NYAttorney General clearly has records that show Chris Cuomo used his news sources to get info on his brother’s accusers.

It is difficult to imagine any context in which these actions are justified.

Dude is toast.

Poynter weighs in.

https://www.poynter.org/business-work/2021/could-the-latest-news-about-chris-cuomo-cost-him-his-cnn-job/

According to documents released Monday by the New York attorney general’s office, Chris used his media sources to seek out information about women who accused his brother of sexual misconduct. He then relayed some of that information to his brother’s top advisers.

Sorry if it seems reductive, but this was literally all I could think of while reading the coverage of this story.

He needs to be fired… for cause. His professional behavior was grossly deficient in nearly every conceivable way. And if his brother is found guilty of anything, CNN is gonna get named in a civil suit, and CNN will not win such a case.

I don’t care that much about the 23 people or so that listen to his satellite radio show, but his comments suggest he still does not acknowledge how seriously his actions violated his basic obligations as a journalist, and that he expects to get one of those Toobin indefinite suspensions that will let him return to work once a certain fraction of the audience forgets what he did or why it was important. Even given the low standards at CNN, it is hard to believe they will ever let him back on their air, as in addition to everything else he apparently lied to his bosses at the network about how extensive his abuse of his journalistic role was.

BTW, have I mentioned lately that Jeff Zucker is an asshole?

The timing suggests something else is going on that we don’t know about yet.

In their statement, CNN says: “in the process of [the] review, additional information has come to light. Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate.”

Zucker seems to have been doing everything he could to leave the door open for Cuomo to come back; it seems they learned something between Monday and today that was even worse than what we already know that forced them to pull the trigger immediately on canning his ass.

So, now I see the NYT reported later last night what seemed implied in CNN’s statement (I had not wanted to speculate without some foundation):

“On Wednesday, Debra S. Katz, a prominent employment lawyer, informed CNN of a client with an allegation of sexual misconduct against Chris Cuomo. Ms. Katz said in a statement on Saturday that the allegation against the anchor, which was made by a former junior colleague at another network, was “unrelated to the Gov. Andrew Cuomo matter.”…

Asked about the new allegation, a CNN spokeswoman said in a statement on Saturday night: “Based on the report we received regarding Chris’s conduct with his brother’s defense, we had cause to terminate. When new allegations came to us this week, we took them seriously, and saw no reason to delay taking immediate action.”

A spokesman for Mr. Cuomo, Steven Goldberg, said in a statement on Saturday, “These apparently anonymous allegations are not true.”

I just mixed these yo-yos up. It's the ex-Gov's advance that has to be paid back. Chris, as Kevin noted, hasn't gotten anything, and won't.    B
