I wonder if the NFL would use hubs. The issue would be how to handle the
exclusive slot of NBC at 8:15 or 8:20(especially if mutpile games were to be played each day at a site.)

The short answer is no. They have made it clear they're not interested in the bubble format.

If Major League Baseball, which has half the hubris of the National Football League, can play in total disregard for common sense or dignity, there's no way there won't be professional football.

It’s not yet clear that we will have a MLB season this year.

66 players opted out by deadline today, no superstars, some key players. That’s about 2 players per team average.

They could play an entire season, they have private jets and could probably take over entire hotels when they travel. But they are not putting players in bubbles in between flights, hotels, home and stadium, so they are really just rolling the dice.

Really, as with sending kids to school, it comes down to how much virus is in the general population. If there are spikes in CA or TX or FL or NY any time during the Fall or Winter, it is impossible to believe the virus will not hit significant fractions of several teams.

If three teams have COVID outbreaks on Thursday of week 4, that costs 6 teams probably two games (presuming a 14 day quarantine following, and no savings from bye weeks). How do they make that up?

And the want live fans in the stands (I suppose they will ban tail gating), meaning they are as likely to cause as be the victims of a local spike.

The NFL has consistently done almost everything possible to make it hard to continue to be a fan of their game. We are getting close to the proverbial point that dog fighters are going to be stigmatized for playing pro football on weekends...

There may be others I missed, but I know one team has already announced that they will have no fans in the stands for the entire season (Las Vegas Raiders), and one team has already announced that they won’t have any fans for at least some of their games (specifically, the Green Bay Packers today said it’ll be at least their first two home dates).

I'm watching the Sky/Mercury game right now on ESPNews, and I have to tell you at least the WNBA games feel okay: the way they've got things set up don't feel as forced as, say, the few highlights from MLB, which just feels like they're trying too damn hard to make things normal when they're not, or the NHL.

Also, I have become a huge WNBA fan with their players absolutely walking the walk this week with the Vote Warnock shirts.

Both BAs (N and WN) are doing as good a job as any sport, no fans, and playing in a (semi) bubble. I have not seen actual WNBA games, but I like how the NBA has the digital fans in the stands, and after a pen uneven start they are getting the artificial crowd noise better.

The NFL could not play all games in a self contained complex, but probably could have had 4-5 hubs, with multiple games played on same field each day, Maybe F-M (Assuming no HS football). And they could have required all players and staff to co-shelter in team facility at home and, if necessary, on road. And having fans in game is insane, and the initial insistence on it surely a mark of Trump’s influence on the league. If that insistence is starting to melt in the face of reality, all to the good.
