Around 20 editors who are members of the IATSE Editors Guild who work on the pre-recorded segments of "Saturday Night Live" have set a strike date of Apr. 1--they say that besides being underpaid compared to similar jobs in the industry, NBCU wants to subcontract work to non-union personnel (something they say is not in any under NBCU contract with IATSE)--a tweet from the Editors Guild parodies the tweets "SNL" posts announcing future guest hosts and musical guests with a picture:  "APR 1--SNL--STRIKE!":

This is the first "SNL"-only strike in the show's 48-year history and if there is a show Apr. 1, will the editors be dragging on the editing on purpose so they can't air on the show that night?

But it’s just the pre-recorded segments, right? Short of the cast protesting in solidarity, what would stop TPTB airing 100% live segments?

I don’t watch, but last time I did between 30% -  40% was prerecorded

They have been relying more and more on recorded stuff in recent years (which aI approve of), but I think the point is that if they know that won’t be available they can just do all live crap.

I can't be sure of this, but my sense is that the three cast members who comprise "Please Don't Destroy" (think the "Lonely Island" for this iteration of the cast) are only seen in video pieces.  I'd assume they would join the strike, unless they do write stuff for non-video sketches.

Losing those horrific nepotistic segments would only boost the show's entertainment value. They generally make "Laser Cats" look like "Citizen Kane."

I disagree. Judge for yourself.

Thank you for (inadvertently) proving my point.

To quote Sorkin, “They forgot to bring the funny.”

And if there's anyone who knows "funny," it's comedy genius Aaron Sorkin!
